Notifications not showing?
Check Settings → Notifications → BestBy is allowed, and that Notification Time in the app's own Settings tab is set the way you expect.
Missing a product or category?
All your data lives only on your device. If it's not reinstalled after deleting the app, it can't be recovered — there's no cloud backup to restore from yet.
Privacy Policy
Overview
BestBy is an expiration-date tracker made for personal use. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app touches and why. There is no account, no sign-up, and no server that stores your products — the short version is that almost everything stays on your device.
What stays on your device
The products, categories, dates, and photos you add in BestBy are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad, using an on-device database. This data is never uploaded to a server, never seen by the developer, and is only ever used to power the app's own screens, reminders, and calendar view.
Notifications
Expiration reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely by iOS itself, based on the dates and lead time you set. No notification content is sent through any external service.
Crash reports & analytics
BestBy uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to catch crashes and understand basic, aggregate usage — things like which screens are opened, and diagnostic data if the app crashes. This data:
- is tied to your device, not to your name, email, or any personal identity;
- never includes the contents of your products, categories, or photos;
- is used only to find and fix bugs, and to understand which parts of the app are actually used;
- is never sold, and never shared with advertisers — BestBy has no ads and no third-party trackers beyond Firebase.

Your choices
You can turn off notification permission for BestBy at any time in iOS Settings. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored product data, since nothing is backed up outside your device. There's no account to delete, because none is ever created.
Data retention
Your product data persists on-device for as long as you keep the app installed, or until you delete it yourself within the app. Crash and analytics data sent to Firebase is retained according to Google's standard Firebase retention periods, typically a small number of months.
Your rights (EU/EEA users)
If you're located in the EU or EEA, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data processed on Google's behalf via Firebase, and the right to object to that processing. Since BestBy stores your actual product data only on your own device, most of this data is already entirely within your control — deleting it in the app or uninstalling BestBy removes it. For anything related to Firebase's processing, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
BestBy is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date above.
